A BEAUTY PRODUCT THAT IS ALSO GEEK ART? Count us in! GEEKSOAP.net is a business that exclusively provides handcrafted bars of soap inspired by a variety of geek-oriented fandoms. Want to get sudsy with the Millennium Falcon? Or wash away the calamities of your day with a Cthulhu? Yes, please, if Lesley Karpiuk has anything to say about it.
As the sole owner, designer, molder and overall employee at GEEKSOAP, Lesley is a fulltime educator who has as ardent a passion for various fandoms as she does for the technique of soap art. LI’L GRIPES could not be happier that she decided to marry these two passions, as it embraces the two oft-seemingly dueling worlds of beauty and geek culture.

GEEKSOAP EMBRACES THE TWO OFT-SEEMINGLY DUELING WORLDS OF BEAUTY AND GEEKDOM.
Lesley insists on stressing the one-woman-show aspect of it all. Each and every bar of GEEKSOAP is designed on Lesley’s computer, its designs hand-cut by Lesley into each bar (including the use of custom molds made by Lesley), and each finished product wrapped and shipped by Lesley’s own hands. Even the website’s product descriptions carry a unique and personal sense of humor tailored to each product. In her words, mass production would cause GEEKSOAP to lose “that special touch and attention to detail, and that’s the last thing I want.”
MASS PRODUCTION WOULD CAUSE GEEKSOAP TO LOSE “THAT SPECIAL TOUCH AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL, AND THAT’S THE LAST THING I WANT.” – LESLEY KARPIUK, DESIGNER AND OWNER.
One look at any bar of GEEKSOAP can tell the company is not driven by mass profit. Lesley had been crafting for most of her life and only begun selling her work in 2006. Every bar, whether it is a Batman emblem or a crest from one of the Houses of Game of Thrones, showcases the finest of imagination, precision, and personal charm. In 2010, Lesley made a breakthrough by becoming the first artist to create a game cartridge-shaped soap. Given the level of detail and smoothness displayed on the soap, you can tell it was no small feat:
LI’L GRIPES’ TOP 5 GEEKSOAPs:
In no particular order:
1. Jawa Soapcrawler (buy here)
This charmingly detailed Sandcrawler-in-foams is tempting to display atop a mantle instead of inside a soap dish.
2. Cthulhu (buy here)
There is something equally sinister and, well, adorable about Cthulhu. Ditto for the same qualities in its soap rendition.
3. Smuggler’s Starship… One guess which… (buy here)
As with the Jawa Soapcrawler, this is a piece that screams “work of art” so loud that one might loathe to put it to its practical function. Either way, its allure is irresistible.
4. The Neverending Story motif (buy here)
How does one emulate the luster and texture of gold so well on a bar of soap?!
5. The D20 Soap on a Rope ~ *the rope is finely crocheted with love and care by Lesley herself as well ~ (buy here)
The sheer level of craftsmanship it takes to carve a dice out of soap is beyond us. That’s why Lesley does the carving and molding (and crocheting) and we do the admiring and buying.
THE NERD ON TOP OF THE CAKE is that you can wash yourself not just of soot but of conscience and toxins at the end of the day. 100% of GEEKSOAP’s ingredients are vegan-friendly, all-natural and animal testing-free. The ingredients are plant/vegetable glycerin-based and have zero animal products, parabens, SLS, or detergents.
